‘Should I not direct you to a gate from the gates of Paradise?’

I said: ‘Of course.’

He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

He said: Abu Musa or Abdullah b Qais

“Praise be to Allah Who has fed me with this food and provided me with it through no might and power on my part,”

he will be forgiven his former and later sins.

If anyone puts on a garment and says:

“In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah,”

(Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 638)

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. He is the Only One and has no partners . For Him is the Kingdom and all the praises are due for Him. He is Omnipotent. All the praises are for Allah. All the glories are for Allah. And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, And Allah is Great And there is neither Might nor Power Except with Allah.

And then says:

O Allah! Forgive me.

‘There is no power and no strength except with Allah;’

and when he said: ‘Hayya ‘alal-Falah (come to prosperity),’

he said:

‘There is no power and no strength except with Allah.’

After that he said what the Mu’adhdhin said, then he said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying exactly like that’.”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i 677)

`In the Name of Allah, I believe in Allah, I seek the protection of Allah, I put my trust in Allah, there is no strength and no power except with Allah,

but he will be granted the goodness of that going out, and the evil of that going out will be diverted from him.”

(Musnad Ahmad 471)

14. It was narrated that Hazim bin Harmalah (رضي الله عنه) said: “I passed by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and he said to me: “O Hazim,

“O Allah, We ask You for what Your Prophet Muhammad asked You, and we seek refuge with You from what Your Prophet Muhammad sought refuge. O Allah, You are the One to whom one turns for help and You are the One who brings it about. There is no power nor strength except by Allah.”

‘O Allah! You Alone bring good things; You Alone avert evil things, and there is no might or power but in You’.”

(Riyad as-Salihin 1677)

17. Makhul (رضي الله عنه) quoted Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) as saying that Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) told him to say frequently

“There is no might and no power except in God”,

for it is part of the treasure of paradise. Makhul said that if anyone says,

“There is no might and no power except in God and there is no refuge from God except by repairing to Him”,

Allah will remove from him seventy categories of distress, the least of them being poverty.

(Mishkat al-Masabih 2319)

18. Abu Zubair (رضي الله عنه) reported: Ibn Zubair (رضي الله عنه) uttered at the end of every prayer after pronouncing salutation (these words)

“There is no god but Allah. He is alone. There is no partner with Him. Sovereignty belongs to Him and He is Potent over everything. There is no might or power except with Allah. There is no god but Allah and we do not worship but Him alone. To Him belong all bounties, to Him belongs all Grace, and to Him is worthy praise accorded. There is no god but Allah, to Whom we are sincere in devotion, even though the unbelievers should disapprove it.”

The narrator said that the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) uttered it at the end of every (obligatory) prayer.

(Sahih Muslim 594a)

19. It was narrated that ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa (رضي الله عنه) said: “A man came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said: ‘I cannot learn anything of the Quran; teach me something that I can say instead of reciting the Quran.’ He said: ‘Say:

Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, Allah is Most Great, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah the Exalted and Magnificent ‘.”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i 924, Bulugh al-Maram Book 2, Hadith 171)

20. It was narrated that Ibn `Abbas (رضي الله عنه) said: “When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) prayed Tahajjud at night, he would say:

O Allah, to you is praise, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth, and everyone therein. To You is praise, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth, and everyone therein. To You is praise, You are the Sovereign of the heavens and the earth, and everyone therein. To You is praise, You are the Truth; Your promise is true, the meeting with You is true, Your saying is true, Paradise is true, the Fire is true, the Hour is true, the Prophets are true, and Muhammad (ﷺ) is true. O Allah, to You have I submitted, in You I believe, in You have I put my trust, to You I turn in repentance, by Your help I argue, to You I refer my case, so forgive me for my past and future sins, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly. You are the One Who brings forward and puts back. None has the right to be worshipped but You, and there is none who has the right to be worshipped other than You. And there is no power and no strength except with You.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 1355, Sunan an-Nasa’i 1619)

21. Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, “If anyone goes round the House not talking except to say,

‘Glory be to Allah; praise be to Allah; there is no god but Allah; Allah is most great; there is no might and no power except in Allah;

ten evil deeds will be blotted out from him, ten blessings will be recorded for him, and he will be raised ten degrees.

(Mishkat al-Masabih 2591)

22. Ibn ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) said:

“Glory be to Allah” is the prayer of the creatures; “Praise be to Allah” is the word of thanksgiving; “There is no god but Allah” is the sentence which declares belief in Allah’s Unity; and “Allah is most great” fills the space between heaven and earth. When a servant says, “There is no might and no power except in Allah”, Allah Says, “He has resigned and submitted himself to Me.”

(Mishkat al-Masabih 2322)

22. Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to supplicate:

“O Allah! to You I submit, in You I affirm my faith, in You I repose my trust, to You I turn in repentance and with Your Help I contend my adversaries and from You I seek judgement. O Allah! Grant me forgiveness for the faults which I made in past and those ones I may commit in the future, those which I committed secretly or openly. You Alone send whomever You will to Jannah, and You Alone send whomever You will to Hell-fire. There is none worthy of worship except You. There is no strength to resist evil and no power to do good except through Allah.”

(Riyad as-Salihin 1480)

23. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “When a man goes out of the door of his house, there are two angels with him who are appointed over him. If he says Bismillah (in the Name of Allah) they say: ‘You have been guided.’ If he says La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (there is no power and no strength except with Allah), they say: ‘You are protected.’ If he says, Tawwakaltu ‘ala Allah (I have my trust in Allah), they say: ‘You have been taken care of.’ Then his two Qarins (satans) come to him and they (the two angels) say: ‘What do you want with a man who has been guided, protected and taken care of?’”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 3886)

24. Narrated Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه): Once Sa’d, with the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), visited a woman in front of whom were some date-stones or pebbles which she was using as a rosary to glorify Allah. He (the Prophet) said: I tell you something which would be easier (or more excellent) for you than that. He said (it consisted of saying):

“Glory be to Allah” as many times as the number of that which He has created in Heaven; “Glory be to Allah” as many times as the number of that which He has created on Earth; “Glory be to Allah” as many times as the number of that which He has created between them; “Glory be to Allah” as many times as the number of that which He is creating; “Allah is most great” a similar number of times; “Praise (be to Allah)” a similar number of times; and “There is no god but Allah” a similar number of times; “There is no might and no power except in Allah” a similar number of times.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 1500)

25. Mu’sab bin Sa’d reported on the authority of his father (رضی الله عنهم) that a desert Arab came to Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said to him: Teach me the words which I should (often) utter. He said: Utter,

“There is no god but Allah, the One, having no partner with Him. Allah is the Greatest of the great and all praise is due to Him. Hallowed be Allah, the Lord of the worlds, there is no Might and Power but that of Allah, the All-Powerful and the Wise.”

He (that desert Arab) said: These all (glorify) my Lord. But what about me? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: You should say:

“O Allah, grant me pardon, have mercy upon me, direct me to righteousness and provide me sustenance and grant me safety.”

(Sahih Muslim 2696)

26. Abu Hirairah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, “Whoever recites these five phrases in the day or night or month

There is none worthy of worship but Allah, Allah is the Most Great.
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone.
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner.
There is none worthy of worship but Allah, His is the dominion and His is the praise.
There is none worthy of worship but Allah, there is no power and no might but by Allah.

and then died on that day or night or that month, his sin will be forgiven.

(Sahih At-Targheeb 3481, Hisn al-Muslim 152)

27. Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri and Abu Hurairah (رضی الله عنهم) reported: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

“If a person says: ‘La ilaha illallahu wallahu Akbar (There is no true god except Allah and Allah is Greatest)’, his Rubb responds to him and affirms: ‘(Yes!) There is no true god except I, and I am the Greatest.’ When he says: ‘La ilaha illallahu Wahdahu la sharika Lahu (There is no true god except Allah, the One, He has no partner).’ Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) affirms: ‘(Yes!) There is no true god except I. I have no partner.’ When he says: ‘La ilaha illallahu Lahul mulku wa Lahul-hamdu (the sovereignty belongs to Him and all the praise is due to Him).’ He (سبحانه و تعالى) affirms: ‘(Yes!) There is no true god except I, Mine is the praise and to Me belongs the sovereignty.’ When he says: ‘La ilaha illallahu wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa Billah (There is no true god except Allah, and there is no might and power but with Allah).’ He (سبحانه و تعالى) affirms: ‘(Yes!) There is no true god except I, and there is no might and power but with Me.”‘

The Messenger of Allah

“He who recites this during his illness and dies, will not be touched by the Fire (Hell).”

(Riyad as-Salihin 909)

28. Ali (رضی الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said to him, “When you face any trouble recite

and by virtue of its blessings, Allah will ease the issues as He Wills.”

(‘Amal Al-Yawm wal-Laylah p120)

29. `Ikrimah, the freed slave of Ibn `Abbas (رضی الله عنهم), narrated that: Ibn `Abbas said: “We were with the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضی الله عنه) came to him, and he said: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you! This Qur’an has suddenly left my heart, and I do not find myself capable of it.’ So the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said to him: ‘O Abul-Hasan! Should I not teach you words that Allah shall benefit you with, and benefit whomever you teach, and they will make whatever you have learned in your chest firm?’ He said: ‘Of course, O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), so teach me.’ He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘When it is the night of (before) Friday, then if you are able to stand in the last third of the night, then verily it is a witnessed hour, and supplication is answered in it. And my brother Ya`qub (عليه السلام) did say to his sons: I shall seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. He said: “Until the night of Friday comes.” So if you are not able, then stand in the middle of it, and if you are not able then stand in the first of it. And pray four Rak`ah. Recite Fatihatul-Kitab (the Opening of the Book) and Surat Ya-Sin in the first Rak`ah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Ha-Mim Ad-Dukhan in the second Rak`ah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Alif Lam Mim Tanzil As-Sajdah in the third Rak`ah, and Fatihatul-Kitab and Tabarak Al-Mufassal in the fourth Rak`ah. So when you have finished with the Tashahud, then praise Allah and mention Allah’s greatness in an excellent manner, and send Salat upon me – and be excellent in it – and upon the rest of the Prophets. And seek forgiveness for the believing men and the believing women, and for your brothers who have preceded you in faith. Then say in the end of that:

“O Allah, have mercy on me by abandonment of sins forever, so long as You keep me remaining. And have mercy on me from taking upon myself what does not concern me, and provide me good sight for what will make You pleased with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to make my heart constant in remembering Your Book as You taught me, and grant me that I recite it in the manner that will make You pleased with me. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of glory, and generosity, and honor that is not exceeded. I ask you, O Allah, O Rahman, by Your glory and the light of Your Face, to enlighten my sight with Your Book, and make my tongue free with it, and to relieve my heart with it, and to expand my chest with it, and to wash my body with it. For indeed, none aids me upon the truth other than You, and none gives it except You, and there is no might or power except by Allah, the High, the Magnificent.

O Abul-Hasan (رضی الله عنه)! So do this three Fridays, or five, or seven, you will be answered – by the will of Allah – by the One Who sent me with the Truth, it has not failed a believer once.’” `Abdullah bin `Abbas said: “So, by Allah, `Ali did not wait but five or seven until [`Ali] came to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) in a gathering similar to that and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), indeed I was [a man] in the time that passed, who used to not take except four Ayat or about that much, so when I would recite them to myself they would suddenly depart from me, and today I learn forty Ayat or about that much, and when I recite them to myself, then it is as if the Book of Allah is before my eyes. I used to hear a Hadith and when I would repeat it, it would suddenly depart from me, and today I hear Ahadith, and when I report them, I do not err in a single letter.’ So the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said at that point: ‘A believer, by the Lord of the Ka`bah, O Abul-Hasan.’”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3570)

30. ‘Awf Ibn Maalik, the son of Maalik Ibn Abu Awf Ashjai (رضی الله عنهم) was once captured by the enemy troops during the time of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). When this news reached the parents of ‘Awf, they were sadden so much to the point that the mother of ‘Awf wept so much her husband went hopeless. At that point, his father then went to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and told him: “My son has been captured.”

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) then advised them to repeatedly read,

There is no power or capability except from Allah.

With this repeated invocation and supplications, Allah (عز و جل) caused ‘Awf’s shackles to be broken in prison and as soon as ‘Awf was able to compose himself, he fled from the enemies.

On his way to his escape, he saw a female camel and rode away with it, and then many other camels of the enemies came following him. ‘Awf did not stop until he reached his home and when he reached, he called out to his family, on this very moment his father exclaimed after hearing his son’s voice saying: “By the Lord of the Ka’bah! This is my son ‘Awf!” And when his mother heard his voice, she shouted continuously saying: “Subhan’Allah! My son has escaped the clutches of the enemy!’ But with their surprise it was not only ‘Awf that came but also many camels.

After ‘Awf was able to rest, his father went to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and narrated what had happened. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) then said: “Treat these camels the way you treat your camels.”

It is against the backdrop of this incident that the following Verses of the Noble Qur’an were revealed:

And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out.
And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. (65:2-3)

“Whomever the Allah has bestowed a blessing on should praise Allah the Sublime. Whoever receives his share of daily sustenance with hardship should ask Allah for forgiveness. Whoever is saddened by something should say, There is no power nor any strength save by Allah.”

“(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. There are no means and no power without Allah, the Most High, the Most Great,”

‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. There are no means and no power without the help of Allah, the Most High, the Most Great,’

Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will repel 70 kinds of misfortunes of which the least is foul smells, leprosy and insanity, and if he is listed as an unfortunate one, his name will be deleted from such list to be written down with fortunate ones.’”

(Al-Kāfi Vol 2 Hadith 25)

38. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said: “When leaving out of your house say,

O Lord, I beg You for the best of that for which I have come out and I seek protection against the evil of that for which I have come out. O Lord, expand for me from Your generosity, complete for me Your bounties, apply me in Your obedience, grant me interested in what is with You and cause me to die in Your religion and the religion of Your Messenger, recipient of divine supreme covenant.’”

(Al-Kāfi Vol 2 Hadith 5)

39. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said: “Whoever says

at the end of his supplication, his wish would be fulfilled.”

(Thawāb al-Aʿmāl p36)

40. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said to a man suffering from pain: ‘Wipe with your hand on the painful area, then say,

41. Isma’Il ibn ‘Abd al-Khaliq said: “Once one of the companions of the Holy Prophet delayed and when he came, the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) asked, ‘What caused you to delay?’ He replied, ‘Illness and poverty.’ He then said, ‘Should I teach you a supplication with which Allah will remove illness and poverty from you?’ He said, ‘Yes, O the Messenger of Allah, please do so.’ The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) told him to say,

‘There are no means and no power without Allah, the Most High, the Most Great, I place my trust before the living One Who does not die, all praise belongs to Allah Who has not taken anyone as His companion or a child, Who has no partner in His kingdom, and there has never been any supporter for Him against humiliation, and speak of His greatness a great deal.’ “

“In the name of Allah, with (assistance of) Allah, to Allah, in the way of Allah, and upon the religion of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family, O Allah, to You I have submitted my soul, to You I have turned my face, it is You whom I have sought for backup and in Your hands I have left my affairs, O Lord, protect me with the protection of belief from all directions, the front, back, right, left, above below and before me. Defend me by Your Means and Power; there are no means and no power without Allah.’”

(Al-Kāfi Vol 2 Hadith 23)

43. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said, “Allah, the Mighty and Sublime will remove 70 types of calamities from the one who says

(100 times) the least of which is death due to suffocation (and sorrow).”

(Thawāb al-Aʿmāl p212)

44. Imam Muhammad Baqir (عليه السلام) narrates that Shabih Hazali came to the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said, “O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! I have become old and there is not much strength left in my body to offer Salah, fast, go for Hajj, perform Jihad or do such deeds. O Messenger of Allah Tell me a deed through which Allah grants me goodness.” The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) asked him to repeat his words twice. He repeated it thrice. The Prophet said: All the trees and earth surrounding you have cried on your state. Recite the following supplication 10 times after Morning Prayer:

and the Almighty Allah will keep you safe from blindness, insanity, leprosy, poverty and death by being buried under debris.” He asked, “O Messenger of Allah! All these were for this world. What about the hereafter?” The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) replied, “Recite the following supplication after prayers:

Imam Ja’far Sadiq (عليه السلام) further narrates, “He held on to those deeds tightly.” The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, “If he appears on the Day of Judgment without leaving these actions purposely after every prayer Allah will open all eight doors of Paradise for him and he will be free to enter Paradise from whichever door he wishes.”

(Thawāb al-Aʿmāl p209)

45. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said, “Whoever says

1000 times, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) will grant him Hajj. If his death is near, Allah will delay his term until He grants him the pilgrimage.

(Bihar al-Anwar 90/191)

46. Ibn Abbas (عليه السلام) narrated that, “I saw Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) reciting,

and I said: Ya Rasulullah, what is its reward?” He said:

It is the Tasbeeh of the bearers of the Throne. Whoever says it once, Allah will forgive him the sins of a hundred years and for each letter a hundred good deeds are written for him and he is raised (in status) by hundred degrees. If he recites it more than once, he has a treasure for every letter and Noor on (the bridge of) Sirat.
